Sex Therapy for Couples

Addressing what often goes unspoken in relationships

The Issue Nobody Wants to Discuss

Sexual problems in relationships often go unaddressed for years. It's too awkward to bring up. Too vulnerable. Too loaded with shame and fear of rejection. So couples suffer silently, or avoid the topic entirely, watching the distance grow.

Here's the truth: sexual issues are incredibly common, and they're treatable. What seems unspeakable becomes workable once you're in a room (even a virtual one) with someone trained to help.

Common Issues I Work With

Desire Discrepancy: One partner wants sex more than the other. The higher-desire partner feels rejected; the lower-desire partner feels pressured. Both feel broken.

Low Desire: Loss of interest in sex—whether gradual or sudden, situational or generalized. Often tangled with relationship dynamics, stress, hormonal changes, or past experiences.

Performance Concerns: Erectile issues, difficulty with orgasm, pain during sex. These have both physical and psychological components that need integrated attention.

Sexless Marriage: When sex has stopped entirely—sometimes for months or years. Rebuilding requires addressing both the practical barriers and the emotional weight.

Sexual Communication: Difficulty talking about wants, needs, and boundaries. Sex often reveals our deepest vulnerabilities.

Rebuilding After Infidelity: Sexual reconnection after betrayal involves working through trauma, rebuilding trust, and rediscovering each other.

How Sex Therapy Works

Sex therapy is talk therapy—we discuss sexual issues, but sessions don't involve any physical activity. What makes it different from regular couples therapy is specialized training in sexual function, desire, and the intersection of sexuality and relationship dynamics.

A typical course of sex therapy might include:

  • Understanding the specific issue and ruling out medical factors
  • Exploring the emotional and relational context around sex
  • Addressing any individual issues affecting sexuality (anxiety, trauma, body image)
  • Improving sexual communication between partners
  • Structured exercises to practice at home (sensate focus, communication tools)
  • Gradually rebuilding sexual connection at a pace that works for both

My Training

I have specialized training in sex therapy alongside my couples therapy expertise. This combination matters because sexual issues rarely exist in isolation—they're almost always intertwined with relationship dynamics, emotional patterns, and attachment needs. Effective treatment addresses both.

Honest Conversation About Difficult Topics

Talking about sex is hard. I work to create an environment where nothing is too embarrassing or shameful to discuss. My approach is direct but compassionate, educational but not clinical. You won't get judgment—you'll get understanding and practical help.
